Hello, I’m Julia and I’m a financial late bloomer.

I live in Nova Scotia with my husband, our children, and our beloved beagle, Bella. We are a blended family, and life is full, busy, and sometimes a little chaotic, just like it is for many of the women I work with.

I’m in my 40s, in my prime (I’ve always liked that term better than “middle-aged” 😊), and I really only got my financial life together in recent years.

Like many people, my financial path hasn’t been perfectly linear. I’ve experienced life changes that shaped both my finances and my perspective. For a long time, money just wasn’t something I managed in a structured or intentional way.

I was focused on my career, my family, and everything else that felt more immediate. I wasn’t doing anything wrong, but I also didn’t have a clear plan or a strong sense of control over my finances.

When I discovered YNAB, things started to shift. It gave me a way to be more intentional with my money, but more importantly, it helped me start building a system that actually worked for my life.

Over time, I created a plan, built new habits, and started to feel something I hadn’t felt before when it came to money: calm.

Today, I feel far less stressed about my finances. I have clarity, confidence, and a plan that supports both my day-to-day life and my long-term goals.

Here are a few of the financial goals I’ve reached during the past few years:

  • I have saved in advance for two amazing international trips (and I’ve now caught the travel bug).

  • I have gotten off of the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle, pay day is now a bit of a non-event.

  • I have paid off a lot debt. Goodbye to those monthly interest payments.

  • I save for Christmas throughout the year.

  • I save for my children’s activities well in advance. When the big bills come, I just pay them.

  • I know how much I would like to save for retirement and have a plan to get there.

  • I prioritize travel in my budget. I save for trips in advance and can relax and enjoy them.
